More Than Just A Meal: Jesus Feeds the 5000!

The disciples had just returned from their first mission trip!  They are excited, but spent. When their plans to get away for a rest fall through, they find themselves set up for another teachable moment. It’s another day, another opportunity, another miracle but Jesus did not perform miracles just to meet human needs.  Each miracle was a sign revealing more of
the character of the King and the nature of His kingdom. This miracle is about more than just a meal...

Evidences of Kingship

A Heart That's Movable.

(Mk 6:34; Ex 35-36; Eze 34:11-16, 23)

Compassion = moved in the gut.
What did Jesus see when He saw people? What do I see? How can I grow in compassion toward others?

heart

Hands that are Active.

(Mk 6:37, 10:45, Gal. 5:6, 13)

When my heart is gripped by God’s hands, then my hands will do what’s on God’s heart.

What needs am I seeing that God wants me to meet? What keeps me from acting when my heart is moved? How convinced am I that the King wants to use me?

hand

A conscious dependence on God.

(Mk 6:41; John 15:4-5)

What was the first thing Jesus did once he had the five loaves and the two fish? What was the disciple’s role in the miracle? How often am I returning to the power source to have my basket filled? In what way does my close connection to Jesus lead to others being blessed?

father and son

An expectation of abundance!

(Mk 6:43; Eph 3:20-21; 2Cor 1:20, 9:8; Psalm 145:16)

Where have I seen God come through for me in a big way? What seemingly impossible situation am I currently facing? What truth from God’s word or aspect of God’s character can I lean on?
